Available Options for Infertility Treatments
Available Options for Infertility Treatments
Couples that decide it’s time to start a family might come to the realization that they might not be able to get pregnant on their own. They might need some help from infertility treatments. There are a variety of different treatments out there and not every couple will know where to turn or which one will benefit them the most.
Fertility Drugs
One of the most common options is the use of fertility drugs. These drugs can either be taken in pill form or injected into the body. Hormones are released by the drugs that help to induce ovulation that will boost egg production. The drugs will also help make the uterus a more hospitable environment.
In Vitro Fertilization
In Vitro Fertilization, also known as IVF, is another common treatment option for infertility. This is a multistep process that takes some time for it to work. The eggs are extracted from the woman’s body and then fertilized with sperm in a laboratory. When the embryos develop, one or two are planted in your uterus. The rest are stored.
Donor Embryos
Another common treatment for infertility is acquiring donor embryos. These embryos are donated by couples undergoing IVF treatments. If the couple becomes pregnant, they will not need the rest of their embryos that were stored. If they decide to donate them they can do so and you can use them in an effort to get pregnant. If this is the route you take the donated embryo will be transferred to your body.
Zygote Intrafallopian Transfer (ZIFT)
This treatment method occurs when the man has a low sperm count, the woman has one working fallopian tube or the woman suffers from ovulation issues. The embryo is implanted in the fallopian tube and not the uterus in an effort to get pregnant.
